"I love all the amazing people in my life, but sh**, sometimes a sista needs a break. Between all the drama in the workplace and life in the urban jungle, finding time, space and peace for yourself is harder than ever."  –Danielle

I’m not a ranting kind of person, so this post on a site called, "Gerard Butler After Dark," amused me to no end. The attitude in her diatribe practically peeled the white off my rice.  She continues:

"All I want is some R&R in a lovely place to unwind without all the ass hat drama that traveling with others can entail. I mean, come on. We all know the drill and have horror stories about people we’ve traveled with."

Hm, isn’t there a comma between "ass" and "hat." Just kiddin’…

She points out that we all know people we can travel with and people we can’t, and that clashing desires make for a miserable vacation. Danielle plans to treat herself to a solo vacation for her 50th birthday but the people in her life just don’t seem to get it:

"Seems simple enough, right? Hell No! Folks
look @ you like you’ve grown 2 heads. Then they stare @ you in wonder
and say, "hey, I went to such and such place alone."

"Oh, I could NEVER do that" or "Didn’t you have someone to go with?"
being 2 of the most…insulting responses I’ve heard.

Okay, I’m not going to interrupt her anymore. I’m just going to let ‘er rip.

Answer…if I wanted to go w/someone
then I would! The whole point of solo travel is surprise…going by my
damn self! How hard is that to process? The whole attitude towards
women, especially those who aren’t content to wait around for others to
get their sh** together to travel w/us, is disrespectful to say the least."

"Then flip it and do a "singles" trip and you have to
deal w/a mobile meat market mentality. Well damn, I could stay in my
local city and get hit on if that’s what I want. Is it too much to ask
to respect the fact that there are some of us that like to do sh** on
our own without the benefit of company 24 hours a damn day?"

Whew. Amen, sista. And no, it’s not too much to ask. People ought to respect our desire to travel on our own. Damn it.
